| Faan se Trein
..............................................
The revival of the play in 2005 met with critical acclaim and commercial success, winning the best production awards at both the KKNK and Aardklop festivals, and also winning a best actor award for Paul Eilers. The success of the play and resonance with audiences lies in Fourie's exploration of our timeless and pervasive class prejudice. The character of Faan is superbly drawn, and Pieter Fourie's text is as relevant today as it was in 1975. The work is a vibrant and moving exploration of social norms, class structure and exploitation of the weak. The intention behind adapting the play for the screen is to create a timeless and moving record of this important work. The film will be produced in Afrikaans and is intended for distribution to “Art House” audiences internationally. It is our intention to attempt to gain another “Best Foreign film” Oscar nomination for South Africa with this film. Film provides the broadest and most effective medium for recording and spreading important cultural works, and this is a work that demands to be remembered. |
